How this works
Effective 2 October 2026 · Version 3
Draft, under review
Real places. Real hosts. Real names.
Every JNUP happens in a room somebody runs and puts their name on. We approve hosts one at a time. You join under your own first name, and so does everyone else at the table.
It is not a guarantee about how an evening goes. It is who is accountable when it doesn’t.
JNUP is 18 and over
Everyone here is an adult. We ask when you were born once, when you make your account. Nobody else ever sees it, and no host is told your age.
Show up, or give up your spot
This is the whole thing. A table of eight with two empty chairs is a worse night for the six who came, and a host who sets aside a table for nobody stops setting it aside.
If you can’t make it, release your spot. For paid JNUPs, the cancellation policy shown when you book applies.
Someone is usually waiting.
Come as you are, on your own
Nearly everyone here came alone. Nobody is going to make you introduce yourself to the room. Turn up, sit down, see how it goes.
Be decent
Don’t make it about you. Don’t sell anything. Don’t chase anyone who isn’t interested in talking to you. If you wouldn’t do it at a friend’s table, don’t do it here.
And some things end it
These aren’t manners. They’re the line, and one time is enough: we don’t wait for a pattern.
- Harassment. Following someone, turning up where they’ll be, contacting them after they’ve asked you not to, or making a person the subject of the evening.
- Threats. Saying anything meant to frighten someone, about them or about anyone they care about.
- Violence. Any of it, to anyone, anywhere a JNUP takes you.
- Sexual misconduct. Touching anyone who hasn’t said you can. Carrying on after a no, or after someone has made it plain without one. Sexual comments about somebody who didn’t invite them. Photographing or filming anyone in a way they wouldn’t want, and sharing it anywhere.
- Discrimination the law doesn’t allow. Treating someone as less than for who they are: race, religious beliefs, colour, gender, gender identity, gender expression, physical disability, mental disability, age, ancestry, place of origin, marital status, source of income, family status, or sexual orientation. That list is Alberta’s, not ours.
- Taking it off JNUP. What you do to someone after the evening, because of the evening, is still about the evening.
If you do any of this we remove you, and we don’t owe you an explanation first.
The host runs the room
It’s their place. If they ask you to do something, move, wait, keep it down, leave, do it.
Tell us if something’s off
There’s a Report link at the bottom of every event page. Use it. It goes to a person, not a queue, and we’d much rather hear about something small than find out later it was big.
If someone’s in danger, call 911 first. Tell us after.
You can also block someone. They’re never told, nothing about their account changes, and neither of you is stopped from going anywhere. They just stop appearing to you, and you to them.
